RELEASE DAY REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Strong Enough (Tall, Dark, and Dangerous #1) By, M. Leighon

Is she strong enough to trust the most dangerous man she’s ever met? And is he strong enough to let her?

How would I describe myself? Well, I’m Muse Harper. I’m a twenty-something painter who loves red wine, quirky movies, and men with a fatal flaw. But that was before I met Jasper King. He became my fatal flaw. Eight months ago, I had a choice to make—abandon everything I’ve ever known to protect my family, or stay and risk someone getting hurt. I chose the former. My plan was working just fine until I found out my father had gone missing.

That’s when I met Jasper. A bounty hunter with the eyes of a tiger and the nose of a bloodhound, he was supposed to help me find my father. What I didn’t know was that meeting him was no accident. Hunting people isn’t all that Jasper does. And helping me was only part of his plan. I just wish I’d found out sooner, before my heart got involved. But even then, I don’t know if I’d have done things differently.

Now, I have another choice to make—trust the man that I’m falling in love with and hope that he’ll do the right thing, or run as far away from him as I can get.

“And probably most and least of all, I love that, despite my resistance, she made me feel. She woke me up. She brought me to life.”

Whenever I pick up a M. Leighton book I know that I am in for quite a ride. The minute I read the prologue I knew that I was hooked. The prologues grabs you by the heart and pulls you right into the book and doesn’t let you go until the last page. M. Leighton definitely wasn’t pulling any punches with this one. I can’t remember the last time I was speechless after reading a prologue but this one did it. I wasn’t sure what I was in for after that but I already knew I was all in regardless. The story was intense, gritty, erotic, with a an added element of mystery and suspense, Strong Enough is just the beginning of what's bound to be yet another unbelievable series from this talented author.

“I’ve never really been haunted by someone I’ve met on one of my missions before either. But Muse…she is one who will haunt me, I think. Forever.”

Muse Harper left everything she knew behind to save her father from something she didn’t understand. When her father goes missing she contacts a bounty hunter to find him before she loses him for good. I loved Muse’s character. She was stubborn and emotional but she has a huge heart for the people she loves. And when she loves someone she loves with her whole heart. There was also a few things that I didn’t really like about Muse and one part of that is how naïve she was throughout the story. She was almost too naïve for it to be believable. There were moments when all of the secrets and actions came to light that I just wanted to shake her. Muse’s reaction to Jasper is something that I couldn’t decide if I loved or disliked. She knew that someone like him wasn’t going to be good for her but she was ready to give all of herself anyway. Muse had no self-preservation when it came to Jasper. In a way I admire her for that. She threw herself so completely in with Jasper there was something beautifully heartbreaking about it.

“I know from experience that when I choose to give people a glimpse of the real me, it changes their mind about a lot of things. I imagine it’s a lot like looking into a black hole and seeing the eyes of a monster staring back at you.”

Jasper King is someone you never want to find you. He is the person that is called when you want someone found and then immediately not found. Jasper has had a rough start in life and it really hasn’t gotten any easier. Now he has been tasked to find Muse’s father. Muse and the reader are kept in the dark about what his real agenda is and most of his past as well. This leads to Jasper being even more intense and dark the longer we get to know him. Jasper is the ultimate enigma. Jasper exudes sexiness and raw danger, while feeling more than he would ever admit, all wrapped up in a tattoo filled package. Jasper was a character that I couldn’t figure out my feelings for and the only thing I knew for sure was that I was completely invested. From the first page Jasper grabbed me and I couldn’t wait to figure him out. There was so much to this character and the more he hid the more I was into him. Jasper is out to complete a job and what he doesn’t expect is Muse. The more he gets to know the woman, the more ridden he is with guilt about his inevitable betrayal. Wanting her is not a question, allowing himself to have her is the ultimate taboo. But a monster always takes what he wants and that is exactly what he is going to do.

“She’s a woman who has enough fire to thaw a small piece of what’s been frozen for a long time.”

While I had my problems individually with each character I absolutely loved them together. They were so perfect. The push and pull that is very strong and very much apparent between Jasper and Muse makes everything between them more erotic. As the reader we are privy to Jasper’s secret and we are rooting for him with everything we have even when it’s possible that he could be a very bad guy. Jasper and Muse’s relationship was beautifully heartbreaking and utterly consuming. You could feel the chemistry leap off of the kindle with every turn of the page.

And if you have read previous M. Leighton books there is an appearance of a very special couple, Cash and Olivia, which was perfect and amazing and I was definitely giddy. There are also introduction to some characters that I can’t wait to meet. The ending of the book gives you just enough to satisfy you but gives you more than enough to obsess over the next book in the series. An MMA fighter that is also a special ops…what isn’t to love? M. Leighton created a consuming and beautifully dark story that will keep you on your toes, rooting for the bad guy, and falling in love in the process. The first book in this series was exceptional and the potential for this series is huge, the author alone and her immense talent ensure that, and I am whole-heartedly looking forward to the ride.

“I’m strong enough to kill, to maim, to survive things that would destroy other men. I’m strong enough to do whatever it takes to keep you safe, to protect you. As long as it’s not from me. The one thing I’m not strong enough to do is live without you. Sarò sempre pensare a te.”
