About READY OR NOT:

Born into wealth and privilege, free-spirited Liv Prescott left it all behind when she realized there was more to life than living off of trust funds and barely skating by. Since then, she’s worked and fought for everything she’s earned and never looked back at the world or the family she left behind.

Jackson Reid is starting over with a new job in a brand new city. A single father to his son Noah, he hopes the change will help strengthen the bond that has seemed to suffer since puberty reared its ugly head. What he hadn’t planned on was Liv—his exotic next-door neighbor who drives him insane with her wild, new age lifestyle, but still manages to leave him aching for more.

As challenges arise and feelings intensify, will these neighbors be able to look past their differences and find a middle ground? When love comes knocking, will they be ready, or not?

Excerpt:

When I finally stepped out of my car, a gasp escaped my lungs as my eyes lowered to the flower beds separating our two houses.

“Who would do such a thing?” I whispered, looking down at the decapitated and ravaged flowers.

The once beautiful display of multicolored perennials was now a churned-up disaster of footprints and soil.

My heated gaze settled on the lights glowing within the house. A shadow passed by an open window upstairs in what used to be Mrs. Reid’s master bedroom.

I took one step forward, ready to march over, meet my new neighbors, and give them a piece of my mind.

A strong gust of wind sent the curtain into a tailspin and suddenly the shadow solidified, and I saw the finest bare back I’d seen in years. It was tanned, broad, and so muscular that the defined muscles could be seen from two floors down. Hard, lean arms reached out toward a box and grabbed a T-shirt as I begged him to turn around—until my eyes found his ass.

Dear Lord.

My new neighbor was hot—or at least the back of him was.

Turn around, turn around, I silently begged.

The weather took that moment to remind me of its mighty power and sent a strong gust of wind whipping through the two houses.  The curtain settled back in place, and I was once again left with shadows.

As the first raindrop fell, signaling the impending storm, I looked down at the once perfect garden that I had painstakingly kept alive as a tribute to my longtime friend and neighbor. It had been trampled on and was now ruined, and I felt the rage boiling back up to the surface.

Hot or not, my new neighbor was a plant-trampling jerk, and when I got home from work tomorrow, I’d make sure he knew it.

I’d also take a moment to see if that face of his matched his perfect back and ass.

Shut up, Liv.

EXCERPT:

“You know what rhymes with drunk?” Sam asks. “Sex!”

“Nuh uh,” Meredith replies with a frown. “But fuck does!”

“Drunk and fuck do not rhyme,” Mark says with a surprised laugh.

“It’s closer than sex,” she says defensively.

“Everything rhymes with sex when you get to have it with an apa,” Jules says.

“Julianne,” Nate warns her.

“It’s true!”

“What’s that like, anyway? I’ve always wanted to know.”

“You can’t have sex with my husband.” Jules frowns for a second, then a smile spreads over her gorgeous face. “Well, maybe you can.”

“No,” Nate replies quietly, “she can’t. No offense, Alecia.”

“None taken.” I grin at the crazy-hot man. “You’re hot as fuck, though.”

“He really is,” Jules agrees happily. “And the apa…wow.”

“Will you get one?” I ask Dominic, just as he takes a sip of wine, and he immediately chokes.

“Fuck no.”

“Maybe I’ll have to find someone with one,” I say thoughtfully. “Just to give it a try.”

“That’s it.” Dominic stands with me in his arms and doesn’t even set me down as he begins to stalk out of the tent.

“Where are we going?” I look over his shoulder and see the others laughing and watching us leave. I wave happily and they all wave back.

They’re so friendly.

“I’m going to teach you a lesson, tesoro.”

“A lesson?” I giggle and bury my nose in his neck, breathing him in. “I’m kind of dizzy.”

We pass by the barn. I can hear voices, heavy breathing and Meg giggling.

“I think we found Meg and Will,” I whisper into Dom’s ear, as he hurries past.

Merde, I didn’t need to ever hear that,” Dominic grumbles, making me giggle more. He strides around the store building, where I stood a few hours ago with Jules and Natalie, sets me on my feet, and pins me against the wall.

“I dare you,” he begins with fire in his bright blue eyes, “to say again that you’re going to go find another man to fuck.”

“Um, it was a joke, babe.”

His eyes narrow and his nostrils flare, and I know I’m in big trouble.

“Are you jealous?” I ask incredulously.

“Not usually,” he says. “I’m not the jealous type, but what’s mine is mine, Alecia. And you’re mine. What I have with you, I don’t want with anyone else. You’re all I fucking think about.”

He’s gathering my skirt in his hands until it’s bunched around my waist, and he slips his finger inside the elastic of the crotch of my panties and brushes the lips of my pussy, making me gasp.

“Dom!”

“That’s right.” He bites my lower lip, then soothes it with his tongue and pushes his finger farther into my panties. “Me. I’m the only one who can touch you here, or anywhere. This is mine.”

Have you ever been in love?

So in love that you believed all the lies, again and again?

Because I did...

Did you manage to escape from the hurt, the heartbreak, and the tears that came with being in love?

Did you even have time to pick up the broken pieces of your heart before they shattered it all over again?

Because I didn't...

I gave Evan my heart, my trust, my everything, and in return all he gave me was pain.

Stumbling around in a new city, picking up the pieces I had lost, I found myself in a stranger's arms. Cradling me against his chest, protecting me, seeing me, promising me everything I was afraid to ask for myself again.

I'm not naive enough to mistake lust for love. Love never comes that easily; it always rips you apart before it finally gives you what each and every one of us longs for. But Noah knew what he was after, and now I know that nothing could have stopped him from taking what he wanted from me.

He became the one who gave me hope again, day after day, simply by being there.

He became the one who made me whimper in bed, while he whispered dirty words in my ear, night after night.

And then he became the one who took it all away again.

This is my story, maybe a simple one for some, yet still completely mine.

Just when I was dropping my phone into my bag, I heard a knock at the door.

Hurrying, I opened it.

It was my date for the night, looking more handsome than he had the right to look. He wore dark washed jeans that seemed to fit a little too well, and a simple white button up dress shirt with folded up sleeves. Even though it sounded like a simple choice, the way they looked on him…

I was downright ready to jump his bones, or just screw the dinner, and pull him in so we could do dirty things to each other.

My eyes finally made it up to his face, and I noticed his barely there stubble. I had to bite my lip to stop the groan that I knew was coming.

“You like what you see, huh?” he grinned. “I have to say, I really like the look on your face every time you open the door and find me standing here. I’m becoming addicted.”

I came out of my trance and realized that I was actually gaping at him. My eyes snapped up to his, only to see they were full of mischief.

“You’ll do,” I said, shrugging, and trying to look nonchalant.

“I’ll do, you say…” he crossed his arms over his chest, trying to look like he was being serious. “Do you want me to come in and show you how I’ll actually do?”

I slowly shook my head smothering a smile.

“I don’t think so, I doubt it would be worth skipping out on dinner,” I lied.
He took one slow step towards me, his intent clear. I threw up my hands, a big smile  stretching across my face at the same time.

“Okay, okay! Wait there, don’t come any closer than that because if you come in we’ll probably skip dinner altogether, and I’m really hungry. Besides, I already know quite well what you can do.”
I took a few steps back, still holding my palms out. “Give me one more second, and I’ll be right back.”

Just before I turned around and ran to my room, I saw a genuine smile on his face, one that was saying he was already enjoying himself by simply being near me.
I hooked my handbag on my shoulder, grabbed my shoe options and ran back to Noah. Stopping in front of him, I held up each pair for his inspection.
“Which one? Flats or pumps?”

“Do you even need an answer for that? I’m a guy, of course I’ll go with the pumps; it makes imagining you naked and bent over easier for me, but if you think it will be uncomfortable walking in them, you should wear the flats. I don’t think my imagination will have a problem tonight.”

He was being extremely thoughtful, which was a treat that was almost impossible to find in a guy. Holding onto his arm, I lowered both pair on the ground and slid my feet into the pumps. As soon as I was in them, he captured my hand in his before I could have a chance to protest. Leaning in, he grabbed the key from the table and closed the door, locking it twice before handing them back to me.

“We better leave now, or I’m going to fuck you into oblivion,” he muttered under his breath.

I, however, chose to act like I didn’t hear him.

Opening my purse, I secured the keys in the small zipper. Just as I lifted my head, he blocked my way.

Lifting my chin with his fingers, he looked deep into my eyes.

“You look so beautiful, baby. I’m very happy that you are finally going out with me. Thank you for this." He gave me a soft kiss on my forehead. "I swear, you’ll never be sorry, it only gets better after this.”

I had a feeling that he wasn’t lying to me. Even if this was the best I would get, I was already sold.

He leaned down and gave me a kiss on my neck, so very close to my ear. My eyes closed on their own accord.

Straightening, he explained, “I didn’t want to ruin your makeup, for now, but I will claim your lips more than once before I bring you back here. Until then I’ll just focus on different parts of your body.”

Even with a small kiss like that, he made my heart beat faster, and my pulse got all kinds of crazy under his touch.

I opened my eyes and smiled back at him while trying to slow down my fleeing heart. I was already ready for the claiming part of the night.

As we made our way to his car, he laced our fingers together and everything felt right in my world.

About the author:

I'm an avid reader. Therefore, a big dreamer. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face, and of course sometimes making you crush on fictional characters. If I can manage to do even one of those things for a reader, I will be a happy writer.

Publishing my debut novel, I'm Yours is the scariest thing I've probably ever done before. However, it is also by far the most exciting thing. I can only hope to become a better writer with each new book.

My beautiful girl (A Golden Retriever) is my sunshine all year around, but I still prefer Fall over any other seasons. Danishes, In&Out Burger, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and Peanut Butter M&M's will always stay as my guilty pleasures, and they can also double as bribes.

I'm still searching for my own happy ending. Until that happens, I'll live vicariously through my own characters.
-Ella

EXCERPT

That kid that could be mine.

I get up and let the empty bottle drop to the floor. The woods are eerily quiet, as if it can sense my anger. As if it knows the bitterness that lingers in my veins, as if it knows the burn of not knowing anything.

Like the woods, I’m left in the dark. Completely.

Branches and twigs crunch under my feet as I increase my pace to a gentle jog. And again, to a slow run. Then to a sprint.

The need to know increases with every footstep, as evenly paced as the ticking of the clock. It doesn’t matter that I’ve probably drunk too much beer to be here or that we’ve only been back for a matter of days.

I can’t be in this shithole full of memories without knowing. I can’t move on until I know. I can’t forgive her for a single fucking thing until I know—and even then, maybe I won’t be able to.

Maybe she’s unforgivable.

Instead of knocking on the back door like I did yesterday, I round the side of the house to the front door. The front room light glows softly through the curtains, but the rest of the house is dark.
My chest heaves with the exertion of my run here and I grab the doorframe to balance myself. I’m definitely too fucking drunk for this conversation, but what the hell.

I bang on the door, once, twice, again and again and again. “Sofie! Open the fuckin’ door!”

“Shut up!” she hisses, yanking it open. “The hell’re you doing here?”

I smirk, leaning against the wall. “Shouldn’t I be askin’ you that, princess?”

“Are you drunk?” Her voice rises a little at the end, and her eyes widen.

Those eyes. Fuck, those baby blues that have always undone me.

“Drunk? No. If I was drunk I’d be sitting at home like a miserable bastard and not here facing the cause of my misery.”

“You’re being an asshole. I don’t have to listen to this.”

She pushes on the door, but I wedge my foot in front of it. I let go of the wall and grab the edge of the door.

“Actually, you do.”

She can’t overpower me, and she knows it, because she lets up and the door swings open. “Why are you here, Conner?”

“You have a kid.”

She smacks her lips together. “Yep.”

“When? When did you have her?”

Sofie takes a deep breath in and presses her hands to her stomach. They’re shaking, even as she links her fingers to hide it. I can see that fucking tremble.

She whispers something but I’m too pre-occupied by her hands to hear it.

“What?”

“August last year,” she repeats, still a whisper.

August. Last year. My stomach clenches as I meet her eyes. “When? When in fuckin’ August, Sofie?”

“August fifteenth.” Her voice hitches halfway through the ‘fifteenth.’

Almost seven months to the day she walked out on me and the rest of Shelton Bay.

Adrenaline hums through my body, and I stare at her. At the tears building in her eyes, the quiver of her lips, the bob of her throat as she swallows harshly.
It’s no different from the burn in my chest, the twisting of my stomach.

“Is she mine?”

She shudders and a tear drips from her eye.

“Sofie. Is. She. Mine?!”
