Vic Howard never wanted to go to the party. He’s
the Invisible Guy at school, a special kind of hell for quiet, nice guys. But
because his best friend is as popular as Vic is ignored, he went…
And wished he hadn’t.
Because something happened to a girl that night. Something terrible, unimaginable, and Callie Wheeler’s life will never be the same. Plus, now Callie has told the police that Vic did it. Suddenly, Invisible Vic is painfully visible, on trial both literally, with the police, and figuratively, with the angry and judgmental kids at school. As the whispers and violence escalate, he becomes determined to clear his name, even if it means an uneasy alliance with Callie’s best friend, the beautiful but aloof Autumn Dixon.
But as Autumn and Vic slowly peel back the layers of what happened that night, they realize that while the truth can set him free, it can also shatter everything he thought he knew about his life…

Review
Kelley York is a new author for me. Modern Monsters
is her newest young contemporary novel. This is an interesting young adult
novel that revolves around a dangerous crime that destroys the life of an
innocent teenager. The crime also threatens to snatch his quiet yet successful
future he has been working so hard for. Vic now has to take the journey to
clear his name and figure out the truth. What he doesn’t know is that the road
to clear his name can be a bumpy one.
Vic is an unpopular nerd with a heart of gold. Surprisingly
his best friend is the most popular kid in school, so every other weekend he
finds himself standing in the corner of every happening party. But one party,
one weekend changes his life forever. When he finds a drunk girl throwing up he
helps her to a bedroom and tucks her into bed. When Monday comes around he
finds out the drunk girl, named Callie, has been raped and the last person she
remembers is Vic. After his mother abandons him Vic, with the help of his best
friend as well as Callie’s best friend, starts on the hunt to find out the
truth and clear his name.
Kelley York creates a mood that is dark and
confusing which makes this book an alluring read from the very first chapter.
The writing was practically flawless. There were bits and pieces that drew you
in and wouldn’t let you go. Vic was a complete nerd but there was a kindness
that made you instantly feel for him. The author also handles the very delicate
subject in a way that was compassionate. The mystery in this novel went so deep
in the beginning it had me completely hooked and unable to figure out who the
culprit could be. Once the pieces of the mystery were being revealed it became
easier to predict who the real culprit could be. This book was definitely one
that was interesting. If you like mystery with some romance thrown in this is
definitely one for you!
