The Wicked Game Review

The Wicked Game

Tori is a career woman at the top of her game. She has everything she ever wanted except a happily ever after. She is ready and determined to find it. When her friend Ariana offers her an invitation to an exclusive online dating service, she decides—against her better judgment—to use it.

A blast from her past is not what she expects.

When Jack realizes he’s been set up with the one woman he’s failed to forget, he has two choices: leave or stay. Life doesn’t give second chances this easy, and it isn’t above him to let go of an opportunity such as this. After all, there cannot be a sweeter revenge.

This was a quick read that was a great addition to the Elite Classified series. Tori played a prank on her crush in college and he has never forgotten what she did to him. He finally sees her again when Elite Classified sets them up by accident. Jack finally gets his revenge. But the only thing that accomplishes is starting a new game that might never end. They end up having an affair that neither one of them saw coming.

Tori works at a magazine and she now has time for love. She goes to meet a blind date for a hot and steamy night. The man that walks in is the last person she wants to see. I thought that Tori’s character was hilarious. She can come up with some pretty hilarious pranks, I give her that. I love that she is the first one to fall. It’s great that she has him grovel a bit too. I mean he was kind of an ass.

Jack has been imagining the ways to get Tori back for what she did in college. What he wasn’t prepared for is starting to actually like her company more than the game they are playing. He is the typical guy. He doesn’t want to admit that he has fallen in love. It is still just a fling. He doesn’t understand that it isn’t something that he can just decide until he loses her. He wasn’t the best at grovel but he was a hotty. Totally steam worthy.

This book might have been short but that had nothing to do with the chemistry. These two had chemistry from the first page. And those intimate scene were downright smoking. This was another great book from Evie Knight and I think I like this series better than her In Bed With The Enemy series. Great read! Pick this one up for sure!

Before You Review

Before You
(Before and After Book #1)

Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.

Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.

It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don't care.

Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn't stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.

At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.

Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.

“I am wrecked inside. Totally and completely shattered.
Lit on fire by his touch.”

This is another retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Two star crossed lovers not meant to be because of reputations and society issues. I have to say that I am a complete sucker for these types of books. Books like this one and Perfect Chemistry. There is something so beautiful about two people growing and overcoming things together as one. Faith and Diego push each other to be better people. They are the examples that everyone they meet should go by. (at the end).

I loved the writing in this book. It was beautiful. It was also funny at times and downright heartbreaking at others. You can feel not only the chemistry these two have but also every single fight that they go through in their heads. They try so hard to follow what everyone expects of them but the pull is just too great. Diego was amazing. He had a tough shell because he always had to have one. But he was so caring and protective. He was a really sweet heart underneath it all. Faith didn’t exactly have the horrible past that Diego did but she had her own scars. Feeling like you have to live up to other people expectations can leave their own mark. Watching her go through the process of learning to be her own person made me respect her more.

“I need to stay away from him.
I need to forget him.
Will you touch me again please?

This book is fantastic. I was a fuming at how I thought this book was going to go. When we got to the end I wanted to throw my kindle. But I had faith in the writer and it all worked out in the end. Plus we got a sneak peek of the next one and I am so excited for that! I would recommend this to people who like Romeo and Juliet retellings. People who loved Perfect Chemistry would love this one too!

“She is fierce.
She is beautiful.”

Nero is the king of Legacy Prep, living a life of power.
Elle is the school’s punching bag, living a life of fear.
The only good girls Nero knows jump in his bed when he tells them to.
The closest Elle has come to a bad boy like him is in the cafeteria line.
The mob boss gave him orders to find out what she knows.
Her mouth is sealed.

I just want to be a fucking made man.
I’m just a fucking waitress.

This book was a crazy ride from start to finish. We have Elle who has been bullied since freshmen year of high school and now all she wants is to graduate. She witness a crime behind her work and now she just wants to make sure the “boss” is not going to come for her anytime soon. Nero wants to join the family business but he has to complete his first job first. He has to get close to Elle so he can see what she knows. It is going to be harder than he ever thought possible.

Some parts of this book was hard to read. I am not going to lie. The amount of bullying that Elle takes is horrible. So you have to be in a mood to read things like that but there is also the romance that brings some happiness to the book. Elle has lived a hard life. She takes the bullying at school so that her best friend doesn’t. She won’t tell anyone and it seems her parents believe all of her lies. Life blows until Nero starts paying attention to her. I only had one or two problems with Elle’s character and it really wasn’t all her. I mean I understand she can’t really tell anyone or it would get worse but I don’t know why she won’t tell Nero. She needs someone to confide in. And I mean what teacher sees a kid with multiple bruises all of the time and doesn’t think anything of it. I mean broken nose, broken arm, hair cut off, I mean you would at least think they would have thought the parents did it. It’s just unbelievable that no one said anything.

Nero is the mob bosses son. All he has ever known was that The Family comes before family. He needs to get close to Elle to see what she saw that night. What he doesn’t expect is to fall in love with her. He wants to protect her and give her the things she never has because of the life she was dealt. I actually kind of liked Nero. I mean he was ridiculously possessive and bat shit crazy but he was loveable. I loved the scene with Elle’s dad. I mean after everything I am glad Nero said those things to him. Nero’s possessiveness was a whole other level. I mean it was borderline too much. I mean he didn’t really even give her a choice to give up her V-card. He just said it’s going to happen and I am not going to wait much longer. Don’t get me wrong I liked this book but some parts of it, like that one, just rubbed me the wrong way.

The writing and the flow was nice. I wasn’t bored or looking for the end. The supporting characters really brought more to the story. Not only were you figuring out Elle and Nero’s personalities and stories but the other characters too. For example I am dying to know more about Chloe, Amo, and Lucca. Vincent too. You get a hint of their stories in the book but only enough to make you want more. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

Eight years ago, Scott and Gaby shared one very special night. Not wanting to ruin their friendship, they didn't take things further...but neither of them has forgotten.

When Scott’s friends stage an intervention to make him realize that his fiancé, Victoria, is all wrong for him, he takes time to evaluate his life. He’s earned a big promotion and just bought his dream car, but those things are just superficial. The one time he was truly happy, was with Gaby.

Gaby is in a good place in her life. She loves her job, has the best friends and family a girl could ask for, and is dating a sweet and sexy guy, but she’s never stopped thinking about that night with Scott.

Eager to find happiness again, Scott makes a plan to win Gaby’s heart during a weekend getaway, but she doesn’t want to be his rebound girl. Will 42 hours be enough to convince Gaby that it's finally
their time for love?

“The other night, at the bar, right before the band started…. You came back from the bathroom, looking all flushed and embarrassed. Then you downed TJ’s beer… I’d meant to ask you about it then, but the music came on, and we all got distracted. Did something happen?”

I flushed at his question, as I remembered the scene that had gotten me all flustered.

“Oh… God… I just,” I felt like such a child, I could barely even talk about it, and it wasn’t as if I’d walked in on them having sex or anything. “I ran into Brock’s brother Brendan … The lead singer. Anyway, he and some girl were going at it pretty hot and heavy in the hallway.”

“Oh,” Scott looked at me suddenly, then cleared his throat and looked back out the windshield. “So you were embarrassed?”

I let out a nervous laugh and admitted, “Yeah, because I was taken by surprised, and I kind of, um, stood there and watched for a minute. Then, Brendan caught me, and said hi, like it was no big deal. I just felt like a prude.”

“Hmmm,” Scott began, as if unsure what to say next. “Have you never been in that situation before?”

I averted my eyes, then responded softly, “What? Practically having sex in a bar? No.”

“No,” Scott said, his voice rough. “Where you’ve been so in the moment, that you couldn’t control yourself, and didn’t care if you got caught or not.”

I squirmed in my seat, his words affecting me more than they probably should. My body felt warm, so I turned up the AC a bit and pointed the vent in my direction.

“No,” I admitted, my voice barely audible.

When Scott didn’t respond, I started to worry that he thought I was referring to the night that he and I’d slept together, so I blurted, “Oh… I wasn’t trying to say that you and I didn’t have passion…”

I felt the blush roll over my face like a heat wave.

“I mean, it was our first time… And it was lovely…” Shit, I was digging in deeper. “What I meant was that I’ve never had someone take me up against the wall in the club like that.”

Oh. My. God. Had I just said that. I wanted to melt into the floorboards. I brought my hands to my face, hiding my mortification.
