READ-A-LONG: Breathless For Him By, Sofia Tate

We’re having a read along for Sofia Tate’s Breathless For Him. Each day we’ll be highlighting three chapters, with notes from Sofia! Be sure to follow along as we get ready for the release of Devoted to Him on December 2nd.

Read Along Chapter 16-18

Favorite quotes:

“Wake up, sleepyhead,” I whisper, leaning down to plant soft kisses on him.

I hear Davison mumble. “Why would I want to do that when I have a gorgeous creature sitting on top of me and making me all hot thanks to her skilled mouth?”

“Because we have something important to do this morning.”

“What’s that?”

“We need to have make-up sex.”

Chapters 16-18

Allegra is recovering at home from her fall. She still hasn’t seen Davison. Lucy and Tomas show up (who appear to have grown closer) and they show her a video Tomas took on his phone of an argument between Davison and Ashton after the fall, accusing her of uploading the video to sabotage Allegra’s performance. She admits that she did it, saying he should know what kind of person he’s involved with. Then his mother shows up and orders her to leave.

The next time Allegra sees Davison is at Le Bistro and they exchange words. He tells her to have dinner with him after her shift at his place the next night. She agrees. Over dinner, she tells him the whole story about her mother’s murder. Concetta was from Naples and immigrated to America where she met Allegra’s father. They married and had her. One night after a baller recital when Allegra was five, her mother was attacked as they were walking home. Carlo Morandi was the perpetrator-he had been obsessed with her mother since their childhoods in Naples, but she didn’t like him. As he was stabbing her, he said if he can’t have her, then nobody could. Allegra ran away and hid as her mother was being stabbed. The police found her a few days later hiding in a basement of a nearby building.

The next morning at his place, Davison and Allegra have sex. At work, Allegra notices a strange man watching her. She spots him again as she’s walking near school with Lucy, but Lucy doesn’t see him.

The night of Allegra’s graduation recital has arrived. Davison picks her up to take her there. She prepares backstage and rushes back to take a selfie for Davison, but someone grabs her and kidnaps her.

REVIEW: Betting On It (Callahan Brewery #1) By, Violet Blake

 photo GR_zps5fe521f1.jpg

Recent college grad Blair Bartlett thought she had it all—until one near-death experience destroyed everything. Now she’s starting over halfway across the country with zero confidence, zero trust, and zero in the bank.

On the eve of her canceled wedding, her so-called friends formulate a bet to dig Blair out of her rut: in the next thirty days, she has to complete ten erotic dares that would make most married women blush. The stakes are high, and this is one bet she can’t lose.

Wary of messy entanglements, she recruits her best friend’s older brother—and longtime friend—Sawyer Callahan. Deemed Colorado’s most eligible bachelor, he’s successful, fun-loving, and knows exactly how to make a girl, um…swoon.

But as the weeks tick by, Blair knows the friendship has become much more than she’s bargained for. And something dark in Sawyer’s past is threatening to ruin their future before it even had a chance.

Violet Blake’s debut novel sucked me in from the very first page and kept me turning them until the end. The book was well written and the flow was mostly perfect. Each character had their own backstory and each character was well developed. Both the two main characters and their friends.

Blair is the daughter of a political figure and has had her whole life planned out for her. She has never really felt what it was like to be loved by her family and when she survives a near-death incident she realizes she can’t live that way anymore. She breaks off her engagement and moves across the country. On the night of her bachelorette party her friends make her a bet she really can’t refuse. Blair is a really strong character. She has had a lot of terrible things happen to her but she is still determined to make her life work on her own. She has a great sense of humor and learns to live her own life.

Sawyer has had his own troubled past. His parents were murdered when he was younger and now he is just coming back out of the shell it put him in. He still has horrible nightmares and now he is the new COO of Callahan Breweries. He has been waiting for his chance with Blair and now that he has found out about the bet his cousins made with her, he knows this is his in. Sawyer is one sexy man in this book and he knows it. He is also sweet, caring, and kind to Blair and tries to give her everything she needs to feel comfortable. Sawyer has his own secrets that he tries to keep to himself but he fights through them to be the man he needs to be for Blair.

Overall this was a great debut novel. There were some parts of the story that I got a little bored with but there were not many. Sawyer and Blair’s relationship was put together nicely and really well written. Violet Blake can write some steamy scenes. There were enough to keep the book at a decent steam level but too many to make the book feel like a porno and nothing else. I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read more from this author!

BOOK BLITZ: The Shape of My Heart (2B Trilogy #3) By, Ann Aguirre

Some people wait decades to meet their soul mate. Courtney Kaufman suspects she met hers in high school—only to lose him at seventeen. Since then, Courtney’s social life has been a series of meaningless encounters, though she’s made a few close friends along the way. Especially her roommate, Max Cooper, who oozes damaged bad-boy vibes from every pore.

Max knows about feeling lost and trying to move beyond the pain—he’s been on his own since he was sixteen. Now it’s time to find out if he can ever go home again, and Courtney’s the only one he trusts to go with him. But the trip to Providence could change everything…because the more time he spends with Courtney, the harder it is to reconcile what he wants and what he thinks he deserves.

It started out so simple. One misfit helping another. Now Max will do anything to show Courtney that for every heart that’s ever been broken, there’s another that can make it complete.

He didn’t speak until I was strapping on the helmet. “It’s weird how nervous I am. I was going for original but I hope I didn’t cross into cheesy.”

“I love cheese,” I told him.

“That makes me feel marginally better.”

Max got on the bike and I climbed on behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist. The motorcycle zoomed off, warm wind rushing against my skin. At first I wasn’t sure where we were going, but then I started recognizing landmarks. Each turn brought us closer to the private place Max had shared with me before, the spot that offered him respite from the world. Like before, we parked and walked in, but when we pushed through the bushes to the small clearing overlooking the river, everything was different. He’d set up a red and white blanket, complete with picnic basket. Overhead, the sky was darkening to a shade of bruised plum, and the moon cut through in a crescent of silver. Glimmers of starlight caught the water, just a hint now, though it would be a flood of brilliance in an hour or so.

“I want to give you the world,” he said. “But for now, will you settle for a corner of it?”
In answer I sang the chorus of I Only Want to Be With You. At every bar mitzvah I ever attended, the terrible DJ always played this song, and I never imagined I’d have reason to sing it. But from Max’s grin, it was a good choice. Obviously relieved at my reaction, he set out the food carefully packaged in plastic containers: cheese, fruit, cold cuts, and crackers. There was also a bottle of wine with plastic glasses.

“Ten points for pure ambiance,” I said.

“That’s not all.”

Max delved in his pocket and came up with an Ipod, which he connected to a small flexible speaker. In seconds, the soft strains of my favorite song filled the silence—Big Strong Girl by Deb Talan. It was incredible to realize all the nights we’d hung out, talking music, hadn’t rolled over him like ocean waves, leaving the sand fundamentally unchanged. No, it was more like Max had been soaking me up like a sponge.

“You are killing me,” I whispered, oddly on the verge of tears.

  “In a good way?”

I managed a nod. “The best. Thank you for all of this.”

“So you like it?” Tension seeped out of his shoulders as he offered his hand and pulled me down onto the blanket beside him. It was thick and plush but I could still feel the blades of grass prickling through. Judging by the pile of stones nearby, he must’ve spent at least an hour clearing the area.

“This is perfect. I’m not much for consumer culture anyway.”

“I figured I needed to do something special—and memorable—for our first date.”

 “Mission accomplished. You hungry?”

“Starving,” he admitted, but from the look in his eyes, he wasn’t entirely talking about the food.

All in due time.

REVIEW: Tall, Dark, and Royal (Renegade Royals #2.5) By, Vanessa Kelly

 photo GR_zps5fe521f1.jpg

He’s the man behind the mission to track down the illegitimate children of England’s Royal Princes and help them get their due. But his deepest desire is far more personal…

Magnificent and stubborn. Fourteen years apart had not changed Chloe Steele, or Dominic’s love for her. He’d been a street urchin, a boy raised at court, and finally a magistrate, yet he’d never belonged anywhere—except by her side. Now Chloe devoted herself to girls threatened by scandal—like she had been. But she was in danger, and Dominic was determined to help—and hopefully make up for lost time…

Even in childhood, Dominic had made Chloe feel safe. Now she also felt thrillingly flustered by the powerful man he’d become, and by the longing he inspired. Because Dominic meant not only to protect her, but to untangle the lies that had separated them. Yet for Chloe, surrendering to temptation may be easier than risking a future that could ruin them both…

This is my first Renegade Royals book and I am kind of sorry that I didn’t read the whole story before I read this one. There is so much background and history between all of the characters that you miss out on if you only read this one. Vanessa Kelly gave us the main details of the character’s life but there was only enough to make you want to go back and read the story again.

While I was not as emotionally invested in the characters as I would like the story was still very good. There were a lot of emotions and tension running through this novella. Chloe and Dominic apart have been through so much. When they were younger they were inseparable and something happened to Chloe that sent them apart for years. Now that they are together again Dominic is going to do whatever he can to break down Chloe’s well-built walls.

Overall this novella was well written. Even though I have not read the first two books this novella makes me want to. I enjoyed reading this novella. It was full of romance, emotion, and intensity. The characters grow and find their happy endings. This series if definitely one you should read.

REVIEW: Her Winning Formula (Hot and Nerdy #3) By, Shannyn Schroeder

 photo GR_zps5fe521f1.jpg

Spring break was supposed to be a last blast of fun for three friends before the reality of adulthood set in. But for the trio’s science whiz, it’s an education in instant attraction…

Chemistry major Felicity Stone can tell you everything about the way chemicals interact, but when it comes to social interaction, she needs schooling. Abandoned by her friends, Felicity is faced with spending spring break alone—unless she accepts a gorgeous stranger’s invitation to pose as his girlfriend at a family wedding. Not one to turn down a research opportunity, Felicity never expected it to produce such breathtaking results…

Teacher and baseball coach Lucas Tanner is fascinated by Felicity’s potent mix of spirit and scientist, not to mention her delicious curves. When Felicity asks him to return the favor by teaching her how to pick up guys, he can’t refuse—but he’s not at all happy with the idea of her using a formula for flirting on anyone but him. Can he convince her that together they have the perfect chemistry?

I love this series. I have read the first two and I was really excited when the last one came out and I wasn’t disappointed. Shannyn created three novellas that tell different stories but come together to create one fun and sexy series.

Felicity Stone might have the most money but she is the most uncomfortable around everyone. She doesn’t understand how to interpret what people say or how they act. Felicity easily offends people with her blunt nature. When she meets Lucas at the airport they have an immediate connection and he doesn’t shy away from her awkward tendencies. She wants to be fixed and Lucas seems to be the best option.

Lucas is on his way to his brother’s wedding when he meets the perfect women to bring to the wedding as his date. The more time he spends with Felicity the more he becomes to adore her mixture of science and spirit. When she asks him to help her learn to pick up men he doesn’t refuse but he comes to realize the only person he wants her to use it on his him.

I loved Lucas and Felicity’s story. Between the two there were many misunderstandings but there also was a lot of chemistry. Lucas was the perfect person to bring Felicity out of her shell. Felicity finds a way to get through her awkwardness and make friends with Lucas’ family.

This series was written really well and the flow worked. The stories are novellas but the stories are genuine and real. Now I really want a novella with updates on these characters. There just wasn’t enough! I love this series and can’t wait to read more from this author.
