Two people. A relationship with no commitment. What could go
wrong?
Javier Cruz definitely isn’t relationship material, but that suits Hazel Gellar just fine. She’s not a girlfriend girl and doesn’t plan on ever being one.
But after a mind-blowing, bed-breaking night, she knows once isn’t going to be enough. Fortunately, Javi feels the same way. And it's not just the sex. Javi is funny and complicated and Hazel loves being around him, even when he drives her nuts.
Will she and Javi make the choice to be together for longer than just right NOW? Or will their hangups about romance be the end?

When I started For Now I knew I was going into it without
having read the first book in the series. It focuses on a different couple but
we get introduced to both Javi and Hazel. While you don’t have to read the
first book to enjoy or even understand these characters, it would be a good idea
for you to do that. Javi and Hazel’s frenemy relationship started in the first
book so I missed seeing them meet.
Hazel Gellar has too much going on in her life to ever think
about starting a relationship with someone that goes past one night. She is
planning on law school and when she is not in school she is working in a bar to
pay for school. She doesn’t have any family support so she is doing this all on
her own. I liked Hazel. She was really focused on her schooling but she also
knew when to have fun and release some stress. She never let Javi get away
without having the awkward what does this mean convo that a lot of lead women
seem to be content to let the men walk away from. Hazel didn’t really let Javi
get away with any of the usual BS and drama a lot of other characters are
content to let happen. When Javi was being moody and grumpy she told him to
talk about it or leave, she wouldn’t let him ask questions he wasn’t willing to
also answer, she talked about her feelings the minute they started to change
from for now to more.
Javi Cruz has never and will never be boyfriend material until
he meets Hazel. His family situation isn’t any better than hers since he comes
from a family of criminals. Now he has realized what he wants and he is willing
to do anything to get it. Javi’s character was laughable in the beginning. The
first couple times we meet him he is hitting on Hazel with blatant innuendos
and pick up lines. Once we got to know him we learned there was so much more
there than a playboy. He is can cook, he is really smart, takes a million
classes, and it super charming. (Oh and he is so good in bed he breaks your
bed). Once Javi gets that Hazel will not let him get away with anything he was
pretty open with his past and even his feelings. While he wanted to move fast
you can see the way he looks at their relationship and it makes sense.
There are very few books that I have read that show a couple
work through things with very little drama. Javi and Hazel worked through their
insecurities and reservations together as a couple. Their relationship was
genuine, real, and honest to me.
I also love that the author gave us an ending for the couple
in the first book as well. We got to see them after the HEA and see them work
through problems of their own even though the book wasn’t focused on them. The
story was well written and I personally loved that it was set in Maine. I
noticed a couple of them where and that makes me happy. Being from Maine myself
there are not a lot of books, that I can say I have read, that have been based
there. I really liked reading this story and I would love to read the first
one. If you are in the mood for a contemporary without a lot of drama, has
amazing characters, and a story filled with romance and humor this book is
definitely for you.
