Captivate Me is Book One of The Captivated Series, a Young Adult Paranormal Romance

"My mom had always told me - when you meet "the one", you'll know; they'll captivate your heart the moment you lay eyes on them. I had always wondered, though, if my mom's words of wisdom were finite - if they applied to everyone. Maybe those who had found their one great love were the lucky few, and maybe the rest of us would have to settle for less than earth-shattering."

Seventeen-year-old Kat Walsh is a Gifted - a human with paranormal abilities. With her mom a former Angel and her dad a dream prophet, it's always been in her genetic make-up to be extraordinary. Unfortunately for her, the world can't handle the strange or unusual. So when she slips up and uses her powers at her high school in Ireland, the entire student body treats her like a freak - even the ones she thought were her closest friends.

Broken, but hopeful for a fresh start, she allows her parents to enroll her in a boarding school buried deep within the forests of a small Colorado town. At Midland Pines, School for the Gifted, she feels as though she can finally be herself; she makes new friends and even has the attention of the most popular guy in school - Levi. Everything feels normal again... or does it?

Not long after her arrival, weird dreams of an alluring boy whom she's never met surface during the night, and the eerie, shadowy trees encircling their school seem to call to her. As these disturbing, yet enticing developments intensify, other bizarre occurrences happen - students and staff turn up missing, and mystery visitors leave gifts while she sleeps. With all of these other things vying for her attention, a desperate Levi has to fight even harder to keep her interest. But with the dreams of the attractive boy slowly captivating her heart, Kat has to make a choice - will she settle for 'great' Levi, or will she search for her elusive dream visitor, possibly stumbling across 'amazing?'

From the author of the Alyx Rayer Chronicles, comes a refreshingly different Young Adult series with plenty of love, suspense, and a new take on the Paranormal.

Recommended for readers 16 and up due to mature content.

“There’s love for a parent or a sibling – unconditional and familiar; love for a friend – warm and comforting; and there’s love for a soul mate that burns white-hot with passion, awakening places in your heart you never knew existed.”

This is my first S.J. Pierce book and I actually really really loved this book! It was something new and different for me to sink my teeth into. I flew this book pretty quickly. We have Kat who was sent to a school for “Gifteds” when she uses her powers in her old school. She has been there for two weeks when the dreams of her boy start. And then it gets all kinds of crazy.

Kat’s character can move things with her mind and when she uses that power in her old school, in Ireland, she is sent to a school in Colorado where she can use that gift freely. She has some type of thing with a boy named Levi. She knows that it isn’t anything close to what her mother has told her about. Until she starts seeing the boy in her dreams. Now that boy is starting to captivate her heart. Kat had to go through some of the worst betrayal before she found true friends in her new school. She was fun and outgoing. She also wanted as normal a life as possible and she was a very caring person. She was so determined to save everyone. I loved that her character tried to make her relationship with Levi work but the minute she realized Gabriel existed there wasn’t a love triangle anymore. I hate them. I love this line that S.J. Pierce wrote about them…

“I didn’t want to be stuck in some silly love triangle… that wasn’t an option. Or fair to anyone.”

They might make for some good angst but I think they are unnecessary. For a minute somewhere in the end it looked like we were going to get one anyone but S.J. Pierce moved the story away from that and I really appreciate it.

I thought that the story was something new and different. Kat isn’t what she thought she was and learning about what she was and her history was really interesting. It kept me involved with the story and eager to see what came next for Kat. And I totally didn’t see the bad guy coming. I totally thought it was someone else so kudos to Pierce for tricking me!

I loved the relationship between Kat and Gabriel. My only complaint is that we didn’t get enough of it. The beginning of the book focused more on her more normal problems and not the ones Gabriel brought to the story. My only hope is the next book focus’ more on them as a couple plus all the other goodies!

"I could honestly say that captivation was something born, not bred. It wasn't something created or forced, but rather natural, organic bond when a heart recognizes its match in another. He was my match, and I was his."

I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series! Plus I think I will be picking up the series this story is a spin-off of!
