Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you—in the most heartbreakingly beautiful way.

Gavin’s story.

I fell in love hard and fast as lightning. As quick as she came into my world she was gone. Demi said she has secrets—that she’s done horrible things. Who hasn’t? I’m not going to let the past determine our future.

Sometimes love lays forever at your feet and sometimes you need to fight for it.

Demi is worth every damn battle we’ll have to go through. I’d burn down the world just to keep her safe. And, after what I’ve discovered, I just might have to. All I need with Demi is one more night to convince her we’re worth it. And that one night is going to cost me everything.

I have not read the first in this book so I went into this not really knowing who Gavin was. Let’s just say I will definitely be looking into reading the first book in this series. I have Addison Moore books on my kindle and I think after reading this I will be moving them up on my to-read list.

“All I have to do is take them, accept them, and they are mine. I wanted to feel love, to really feel it, and now he’s crushing me under the heft of his devotion.”

Demi has been given a tough hand when it comes to life. Her mother died in child-birth and her father remarries and evil woman with an even more evil son. A year later Demi’s father dies in a car accident that leaves Demi with a hole in her heart. When Josh (the evil bitch’s son) starts sneaking into her bed she doesn’t fight. She tries to look for something to fill that void. Nora and Josh torture her until she finally escapes. Now she is living in a brothel and about to cross the lines from escort to prostitute. Then she drives to the wrong cabin.

“This is how it feels being in love with Gavin, deliciously freeing and joyously unstable.”

Gavin lost his parents at a young age and now he is trying to take care of himself and his nineteen year old sister. He throws everything he can into his business so that he can make the money he needs to survive. He fills his bed with random women never looking for a relationship. Until Emmy walks into his boathouse wearing a French maid’s costume thinking he is a paying costumer.

"I feel like a kid again, lying in the grass, watching amazed as the stars spray out in the night, and here I am about to kiss the sky in the most spectacular way.”

Then their story begins. Gavin and Emmy/Demi realize that they are the same person in different skin. They both went about filling a hole in their hearts the same way. Now they are going to try to fill that hole with each other. Gavin is such a great character. He is caring and sweet. I really liked that he didn’t bother playing games with Demi. He knew that she was the one and that was how he was going to start that relationship. Demi was something else. She had been a black hole for so long it took a while for Gavin to pull her out. But once he did she was a really fun character. She was stronger than she ever thought possible. She was kind and sympathetic and went after the things she believed in.

“A person like me with a dead heart and no soul could give it all up and take everyone around them down in a blaze of glory without giving it too much thought.”

Gavin and Demi bring out the best in each other. They help each other become better people. This story is about Gavin pulling Demi out of the illusion that she is dead inside. He shows her that there are things to feel alive for. They give each other a reason to fight for their happiness. This story was written well. There was some skimming in the end for me only because I thought that some of that was unnecessary. But other than that the story was great and really held my attention. I really love dual POV and this was no different. I can’t wait to read the next book!

“I bet he’s already crushed to death on the inside. Love doesn’t melt away- it stays, it condenses into something potent. It just gets stronger, Demi.”
