REVIEW: Golden Stair (Blood Prince #3) By, Jennifer Blackstream

Ivy has lived in a tower, locked away from the rest of the world, for her entire life. Her mother, a witch who leads the resistance against the bloodthirsty kings of the five kingdoms, is her only company. Ivy knows that her battle-weary mother relies on the golden power flowing through her veins for the energy to continue the good fight, but she can’t completely smother the selfish yearning to see the world beyond the safety of their hidden valley. When the demon prince of her mother’s horror stories literally crashes into Ivy’s life, she finds herself facing her wildest dream…and her mother’s worst nightmare.

Adonis is a demon determined to bury his desire for love in the pleasures of the flesh. Bound by a vow to maintain his physical form, Adonis requires a great deal of energy just to live, energy he can only absorb through the carnal arts…more energy than any one woman could ever provide. Adonis knows he could never offer a woman the fidelity she would deserve as his wife, and so carries on with his wild ways, his cryptic smile hidden behind a puff of smoke. No woman can reach beyond the heat of his embrace to touch his heart. Not even the golden haired maid whose lonely eyes keep wooing him back to her side.

An incubus can only deny his nature for so long. Long golden hair. A tower with no stairs. A witch with serious possession issues. Debilitating blindness. None of these are enough to keep a demon from climbing…the Golden Stair.

After finishing the first two books in the series I was super excited to start this one. After Before Midnight and One Bite I didn’t think it could get any better but Jennifer managed to keep the excitement going with this book. She took Rapunzel and twisted the story to make it interesting and exciting. We have the hero that is charming, sexy, and skilled. But he is also bruised and a little hopeless. Then we have the heroine that is smart and innocent without being dumb or weak.

Ivy has been in the same tower with her mother for as long as she could remember. Her mother leaves every morning to fight a war against the 5 princes, for their freedom. What she doesn’t know is that everything her mother tells her is a lie. Ivy doesn’t know this until one of the princes drops through her roof. Ivy is na├»ve but not in a bad or annoying way. She has trusted the one person she thought she could. He resolve to leave was building Adonis just gave her more of a reason to fight.

Adonis is an incubus stuck in a human body. He made a deal with Aphrodite a long time ago to keep this body moving. Sex gives him the power and energy he needs to keep his word. So he has given up all hope of finding the mate that completes him. Then Adonis follows a wil’ o wisp and falls through a roof. Adonis was sexy and charming through this whole book. Even when he wasn’t trying to be. You fell more in love with him after every page.

This was definitely one of my favorites. We got Jennifer’s beautiful writing as usual but we got more humor in this book. Adonis and Ivy had some pretty hilarious dialogue between the two of them and it made this book stand out. I can’t wait to see what fairy tale Jennifer changes for us the next time!
