Ellie Parker is a master at
building walls around her heart. In the twenty-five years she’s been alive, Dex
Remington has been the only person who has always believed in her and been
there for her. But four years earlier she came to Dex seeking comfort, and then
disappeared like a thief in the night, leaving him a broken man.
Dex Remington is one of the top PC game developers in the U.S. He’s handsome,
smart, and numb. So damn numb that he’s not sure he’ll ever find a reason to
feel again.
A chance encounter sparks intense desires in Ellie and Dex. Desires that make
her want to run—and make him want to feel. A combination of lust and fear leads
these young lovers down a dangerous path. Is it possible to cross a burned
bridge or are they destined to be apart forever?
My Thoughts….
“I remember almost every day we’ve ever spent
together.”
This is the first book I
have read from this author and I really enjoyed it. This is the first in The Remington’s
series but it is a spin-off of another longer series. It’s like number ten or
something I think. After reading this one I think I just might go back and read
the rest of her books. Dex and Ellie have grown-up together as friends. Dex has
always loved Ellie and Ellie has always loved Dex. Lives and issues keep
getting in their way. Can love really heal?
Ellie Parker
Ellie Parker spent her
whole life in the system. She bounced around foster care homes and landed as
Dex’s neighbor. She snuck into his window one night and from then on they have
been best friends. Ellie has a world of issues. She was stuck in all kinds of
bad situations with her foster homes and now has a whole lot of trust issues.
She tries to get everything done herself because trusting anyone else never
works for her.
Ellie kind of bothered me
through this book. She eventually grew on me but it took a little while. I get
she had a hard life and that makes It hard for her trust but eventually it was
just too much. She had epiphanies but none of them really stuck until the end.
But like I said she grew on me. She never meant to hurt Dex she was just doing
what any leading man in any other book would have done and tried to save him
from herself. She becomes stronger towards the end of the book and really works
on her issues and tries to become the person, not only the person Dex deserves,
but also the person she deserves to be as well.
“He smelled familiar. Safe. Masculine. He
smelled of the only love she’d ever known.”
Dex Remington
Dex Remington is a
self-made millionaire. He developed his first game at the age of 18 and now he
runs his own video game production company. He has always loved tinkering with
computer parts and playing video games. The only thing that he has ever loved
more than that was Ellie. She broke his heart twice and now he has closed his
heart to love. He still and has always loved Ellie Parker but he wishes he
could just forget her. Nothing has ever come of letting Ellie past his walls
but he can’t help but do it again when she comes back into his life.
I loved Dex. He was sweet
and caring no matter how hard Ellie was to deal with. Dex tries to help Ellie
anyway he can, with everything he can. When he finally realizes nothing is
changing like he thinks it is he tries to help Ellie break through some of her
past. He also realizes that he has to give Ellie some type of break. He needed
to be patient with her while also trying to work through her problems. And he
does just that. Some of his personality (the gaming) is funny to me because I
am married to my own gamer so I know how Ellie feels when she sits and watches
him play.
“It was the intensity in which Dex played that
intrigued her. He didn’t just play the games; he seemed to live them. She used
to love the way his muscles tensed and his eyes lit up when he played. And
listening to his voice as he’d narrate while he played, explaining the
storyline, or his hooting and hollering when he did something amazing in the
game, had always soothed her, made her feel like she was part of his world.”
This book was a different
take on the same jilted love story. This time it was the man who had been hurt
more than once by the same person and couldn’t seem to get over them. The woman
needed to get over her demons and accept the love she deserves. The story was
enjoyable. There were some problems but I would, and am going to continue to
read this series.
