When Sophia St. James learns that she’ll be moving from Los Angeles to a podunk town somewhere in Connecticut for her senior year of high school, she isn’t expecting an otherworldly encounter. But there is more to Haven Hurst than meets the eye: it’s home to a family of Guardian Angels, and she is the only one who can see them in spirit form. Sophia soon realizes she wants to see much more of Michael, an irresistible yet volatile Guardian who seems drawn to her too.

As Michael battles his forbidden desire for the beautiful young newcomer, one of Hell’s most notorious Demon Knights arrives. Handsome and charismatic, Dante has come to claim the reincarnated soul of his lost lover trapped in Sophia. Cursed with the demon of Persuasion living inside him, Dante will use his seductive charms to lure Sophia into a dangerous game that ends with the kiss of death—unless Michael, who has captured Sophia’s heart, can now capture her soul.

This is the first book in the SoulKeepers series and I was pleasantly surprise on how much I enjoyed this book. This book had a different take on Angels and Demons. The way Lori Adams wrote this book there was so much more to both sides and it made everything seem so real. I mean a demon royal court. Awesome.

Sophia has been moving around a lot. Her father is a pastor and her mother has recently died. This moved meant getting away from her abusive ex-boyfriend. When she makes it to the new town she immediately finds herself immersed in this new town. Making friends, trying to catch up in school, and taking the picture for the local newspaper. Sophia was a pretty strong human being. I loved that she was really curious about what was happening around her. She didn’t let Michael’s surliness stop her from finding out what he was hiding.

Michael is a being born of light. Michael and his family are a guardian angels that protects the souls of Haven Hurst.  When he first meets Sophia he knows something is different about her. She can see him in spirit form and he doesn’t know if that is a good or bad thing. Michael was such a stoic character. He was single-minded in his need to prove that Sophia was a demon or a test sent by the Halos. It actually took him a while to admit that he felt anything for Sophia and now he is battling emotions that no angel should feel. Jealousy and desire.

Dante is a royal demon house the demon knight persuasion. He is being sent to the surface to collect a soul but he ulterior motives. He wants to find his long lost love. He has traced her over centuries and has finally found her. In Sophia. Dante was a weird character for me. Dante and his band of demons were supposed to be evil and they were but nothing really happened with them either. Dante tried to make Sophia remember but for me he was kind of just there.

The romance was lacking for me. Michael and Sophia both feel a second heartbeat whenever they are around but it takes them a while to even be nice to each other but they fall immediately in love. It was just a little confusing for me. Once they did realize they were in love I liked how the interacted with each other. Michael was sweet and protective. Dante seemed more of a crazy stalker than a second love interest. I mean there are hints of Sophia once being in love with him but it didn’t fit for me.

Overall I thought that the whole concept of the book was really interesting. The first part of the book went a little slow for me but once the plot got going it was hard to put the book down. I can’t wait to read the next one!
